Success Rule 1
It is important that all students practice using Matlab/Simulink and simulate the machines studied during the lectures and tutorials. Without self studying at home it will be very difficult to fully understand the concept of electromechanical systems and actuators operation.

Success Rule  2
Students should review their circuits analysis course notes and practice on ac and dc circuit analysis to be able to succeed in solving problems.

Definition

Electric motors are electromechanical systems which transform electrical energy into mechanical energy. They are used in many industrial, commercial, and utility applications as actuators, where they may be attached to pumps, fans, or other mechanical equipment such as conveyors or mixers. In many such applications, the speed of the system is determined primarily by its mechanical design and loading. However, for an increasing number of applications, system speed and position must be controlled. This is often done by controlling the motor speed and/or rotor position.
